Right Before Break!

We had a packed week before break! During our math unit on positive and negative numbers, students played some math games to practice plotting points on a four-quadrant coordinate planes. We did group learning with stations, so some students worked with online math practice and games at our technology group.




To review for our Bible test, we played an interactive review game using Kahoot. Students logged into the game using their Chromebooks, and they answered multiple choice questions. The screen tracked how well the students did. It was an intense game!




On our last day before break, students worked hard on a desk atlas geography activity. This was to introduce students to our next social studies unit on Central America.




To celebrate all of the hard work that went into the mystery/fantasy novel projects, students did a showcase of their projects. The 6th graders were able to walk from desk to desk and write down how the other students used their creativity to promote the books through their projects.







We also had fun with some games! Students had to get a hula-hoop passed all the way around the circle without letting go of each others' hands. That was quite a hit, and I got some good action shots!





We ended our break with a frozen yogurt party! Spring break has gone fast, but we look forward to finishing the year strong!

Last week of School!

We made it! There were lots of activities scheduled for the last week of school, and we really enjoyed our time together. First, the students acted out parts of the Bible story where Lazarus is raised from the dead. In addition, I had a great birthday celebration on the 4th! I am so thankful for all of the gifts and cards I received; the kids made my day! We even had a countdown to the exact time I was born (9:39 AM) :)  On Wednesday, we had a "Word Game" day where students played Boggle, Madlibs, Upwards, and Scrabble with a certain group. Students were able to rotate around and try out each of the games.  We also finished up our 3D figures math unit by measuring different figures and finding the surface area, volume, and other attributes of the solids. Students worked in partners for this activity. Students helped out Mr. Cox by pulling staples from New Testament booklets that are going to the jail ministry through Forgotte

Fun in Grade 6

It's been a blast in 6th grade so far! Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks:  Everyone worked hard getting in their laps during the Fun Run on Friday, September 21! In social studies, students used magazines to put together collages for the five themes of geography.  We used playdough to model plains, mountains, and plateaus. We also measured their elevation and relief.  We celebrated all of the pledges with donuts and cider!

End of Year Fun

The year is almost over, and I hope you are all looking forward to summer break! Since we have finished up MAP testing, this last week should be a breeze. Here are some of the things we have been up to lately:  Students were introduced to different types of punctuation by trying to determine which ones should be used in different sentences.  Students did very well on their social studies Caribbean Island posters! I was very impressed with the organization and creativity that went into these projects. Here are pictures of the students' hard work during our work sessions: Our last literature unit was all about poetry. We read through a poem by Lewis Carroll called "The Jabberwocky." After reading, the students were challenged to use vivid details from the poem to draw a picture of what they think the Jabberwocky looks like.
