Lent and Eastertime


It has been a busy past couple weeks here at Bethlehem! We made it through accreditation, and we also had wonderful celebrations of Easter. We have continued to work hard in the classroom as well! 

During math, students practiced working with two-variable equations by playing a game to try to find the greatest solution. Math is more entertaining when games are involved! 



Students have continued to have great literature circle discussions. I have enjoyed listening in on conversations that students have had about their books. The depth and level of insights that students have shared is awesome! 




In science, we have been working through plate tectonics, boundaries, earthquakes, and volcanoes. When learning about seismic waves, we used a slinky to demonstrate the way that different types of waves travel through the earth.








While we celebrated Lent and the wonderful sacrifice of our Savior Jesus Christ, we talked about how different colors can represent different things about Christ's time on earth. (Ex. Red represents his blood, white represents his purity, black represents the sin that he bore, etc). Students made crosses to hang in the window as a testimony of his great love for us.

Last week of School!

We made it! There were lots of activities scheduled for the last week of school, and we really enjoyed our time together. First, the students acted out parts of the Bible story where Lazarus is raised from the dead. In addition, I had a great birthday celebration on the 4th! I am so thankful for all of the gifts and cards I received; the kids made my day! We even had a countdown to the exact time I was born (9:39 AM) :)  On Wednesday, we had a "Word Game" day where students played Boggle, Madlibs, Upwards, and Scrabble with a certain group. Students were able to rotate around and try out each of the games.  We also finished up our 3D figures math unit by measuring different figures and finding the surface area, volume, and other attributes of the solids. Fun in Grade 6

It's been a blast in 6th grade so far! Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks:  Everyone worked hard getting in their laps during the Fun Run on Friday, September 21! In social studies, students used magazines to put together collages for the five themes of geography.  We used playdough to model plains, mountains, and plateaus. We also measured their elevation and relief.  We celebrated all of the pledges with donuts and cider!

End of Year Fun

The year is almost over, and I hope you are all looking forward to summer break! Since we have finished up MAP testing, this last week should be a breeze. Here are some of the things we have been up to lately:  Students were introduced to different types of punctuation by trying to determine which ones should be used in different sentences.  Students did very well on their social studies Caribbean Island posters! I was very impressed with the organization and creativity that went into these projects. Here are pictures of the students' hard work during our work sessions: Our last literature unit was all about poetry. We read through a poem by Lewis Carroll called "The Jabberwocky." After reading, the students were challenged to use vivid details from the poem to draw a picture of what they think the Jabberwocky looks like.
